A Political Cartoon Exhibit

Contekst Presents in Partnership with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre

Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (1982), Everyone’s Rights & Freedoms is a political cartoon exhibit showcasing editorial cartoonists’ satirical views on manifestations and violations of everyone’s human rights and freedoms in various socio-political contexts. 

Jury Members

Born in Izmir (Turkey), Hilal Özcan is a graduate of the Department of Visual Arts Education of the University of Izmir Dokuz Eylul. She works as a visual arts teacher in a private school in Izmir and has been making press cartoons since 2016. She participates in many competitions for which she has won several prizes.

Cartoonist trained autodidact, with works published in the Supplement Literary Pernambuco, in Le Monde Diplomatique Brazil, Dossier magazine’s own newspaper Le Monde Diplomatique Brazil, the magazine Voce S / A and in the newspaper Efimerida Ton Syntakton of Greece, has been dedicated to graphic humor since 2007, developing its work in the areas of cartoon, political cartoon and caricature. During this period, received 66 awards in national and international competitions in countries such as Brazil, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Mexico, Romania, Russia and the US, and more.
